1. Vals til Claire av David Elliker-Vågsberg:
A vals I wrote for my wife Claire on a trip from Seattle to Portland in 2003. An expression of my love

2. Målselvhallingen:
A halling from Troms district in Norway. The tune works very well for the Swedish mixer dance:
Engelska. My source is from the CD: Målselv -Tradisjonsmusikk og lyrikk.
3. Reinlender etter Spak Erik:
A reinlender from Särna, Sweden. Spak Erik learned the tune from Halvar Bäckman who learned it
from a Norwegian farmer who worked in Särna and could only whistle the tune. I learned the tune from
a version by Per-Olof Moll & Per Hardestam from the CD: Jaggu lekar.
4. Vals etter Aslak Brimi:
Aslak learned this tune from his father, Rolv Brimi, who learned it from Hans W. Brimi & others. I
learned from the CD: Blå September - Aslak Opsahl Brimi and Hans W. Brimi.

5. Seglora av Bent Jacobsen & Pols frå Elgå etter Ingrid Risbakken:
A medly of two tunes for Røros pols. Seglora is by Bent Jacobsen who plays with Dalakopa.
Seglora is a town in Sweden which has an old church at the Skansen friluftmuseum in Stockholm.
Pols frå Elgå is from Engerdal, Norway from the CD: Jaggu lekar.
6. Finnbuhuldra av Lars Skjervheim:
A reinlender from Myrkdalen, Vossestrand, Norway. Lars wrote this tune from a poem by Ola
Helgeland. "...in Sendefossen the Nykken (Fossegrimen) plays music, Finnbuhuldra gets married and
all the Trolls and small Nissar dance in the waterfall's roar..."
7. Fykeruden:
Telespringar slåt (tune) I learned from a video tape of Halvor Lisland playing the tune for dancers at
the Norsk Folkedans Stemne in 1992. Named after Lars Fykerud. D: hardingfele.
8. Trippar etter Lars Mjåland:
An old polka type dance from Åserål , in the NW corner of Vest-Agder near the Setesdal valley.
Learned from a version by Dag & Vegar Vådal who learned the tune from O.M. Sandvik's books.
9. Klunkaren etter Vidar Lande:
A gangar from Setesdal which I learned from Vidar Lande. The tune was brought to Setesdal from
Telemark by Nere G. Nese (1838-82). He was thought to have learned the tune from "Myllarguten"
(Torgeir Augundsson, 1801-1872) the most famous fiddler in Norwegian history. D: hardingfele.
10. Dimmisjonspols av Sturla Eide Sundli:
A Røros pols from the group Småviltlaget, Røros. The pols was written by Sturla Eide Sundli, Fannrem,
after his civil service ended with Rådet for Folkemusikk og Folkedans.
11. Lugumleik i hallingtakt:
Halling from Hans W. Brimi, Garmo. Hans learned the tune from a milkmaid named Mari Eklebakken
at the Brimi Seter who sang the tune as she worked.

12. Den blå slåtten, lydarslått av Hans W. Brimi:
A listening tune from Garmo, Norway, one of Hans W. Brimi's favorites. Released again on his
grandson's CD: Blå September, Aslak Opsahl Brimi og Hans W. Brimi.

13. Bjørnen og reven av D. Elliker-Vågsberg:
A new reinlender I composed in the summer of 2007. It reminded me of the Asbjørnsen & Moe

14. Slängpolska efter Magnus Theorin:
A tune originally from Magnus Theorin's handwritten notebook, Växjö 1792, later found in
"Svenska Låtar". Learned from Nancy Morrison, Seattle.

15. Indianpolska av Peckos Helmer:
A Bingsjö polska named by a friend of Peckos Helmer who thought the tune sounded like the "Wild
West". Learned from the CD: Boda Spelmanslag 50 år. D& K: fiddles, B: guitar, J: bass.
16. Hin håle på Gräsö (Gräsöpolskan) av Albin Wallin efter Ceylon Wallin, Valö:
A bond polska which originated from a trip made by Albin to a dance in Gräsö. After missing the
boat to Gräsö, Albin finds a row boat and when nearly there, hears these melodies floating out over

17. Hälsa dem därhemma:
A well known song of longing for the homeland which is sung often here in the USA by both
Norwegian and Swedish descendents. Lyrics by Ch. Bengtsson, music by Edith Worsing.

18. Rättvikpojkar efter Röjås Erik d y :
A Boda polska after a former leader of the Boda Spelmanslag for over 20 years. Röjås Erik Junior
also sang lyrics to this tune about the Rättvik Boys. From the CD: Boda Spelmanslag 50 år.
19. Fardagspolskan av Gunnar Jonsson , Frösön:
A gammalvänster från Oviken which I learned from Sharon Moore, Salem, Oregon. Gunnar wrote this
tune June 16, 1985 for the dancer Göram Karlholm. D, B & C: Nyckelharpor, K: fiddle, J: bass.
20. På en äng ("Lada"):
A hambo-polska learned from the Swedish group: Nyckharpsfolket. The song has been traced back
to Småland. D, B & C: Nyckelharpor, K: fiddle, J: bass.
21. Näckpolska från Torp:
A Medelpad senpolska. From Anders Hällström & Agneta Wiberg-Hällström who learned it from
the Näcken i Gimforsen, Medalpad, July 2003. Arranged from a transcription by Karen Myers.

22. Polska efter Bränd Jon:
Orsa polska after the Orsa Spelmanslag and Olle Wallman. Bränd Jon Larsson (1846-1918) lived in
Mickelvål and trolled this polska to Gössa Anders. D & K: fiddles.
23. Truklrak av D. Elliker-Vågsberg:
A polka tune I wrote when my two boys (Kurt & Karl)
were very little. I arranged it for the first time for
Fossegrimen in September 2007. D & K: fiddles,

24. Nåvårsetersmarsjen av Ola Moløkken
When Claire & I were married in Lom, Ottadalen this was our wedding march played by Bjørn & Kristen Odde. Origins: Ola was returning home from a party during the Christmas season and was caught in a snowstorm near Lake Tesse., in the mountains between Vågå and Lom. The Brimi family seter is located there, and also Nåvårseter. As Ola waited out the storm in the seter cabin, he heard a tune whistling down the chimney and he composed this beautiful
bridal march. David: fiddles & viola.
25. Solveigs sang av Edvard Grieg fra Peer Gynt, Akt IV:
When Claire and I had our wedding dinner at Brimi
Fjellstugu on Lake Tesse, I played this song for her.

26. "Livet består av øyeblikk. Nyt dem!"
I wrote this vals during July-August of 2007. I thought about what it must have been like to have been an immigrant leaving home perhaps for forever. "Life
passes in an eye blink. Enjoy life!"
Fossegrimen is a dans orkester formed in 1999 and located in Oregon. The group is named after a creature fromNorwegian & Swedish folklore. The fossegrimen (näcken in Sweden) lives in waterfalls and may teach a fiddler how to play as long as the fiddler brings the right gifts to the fossegrimen. Fossegrimen specializes in playing Norwegian and Swedish gammaldans and bygdedans folkdance music.
